HCC offers free summer bridge program for incoming students

Then in July, students will participate in four weeks of math and English/reading tutoring sessions to prepare them for college-level classes in the fall semester. Students will also be matched with a mentor, close to his/her age, who has achieved college success. Called near-peer mentors the older students will advise the younger ones during the summer and throughout the fall semester. Pivot to Success will also offer Lunch and Learn sessions throughout the summer. College and community leaders will speak at these sessions, offering both practical advice and inspiration, program coordinators said. Pivot to Success is part of a group of nationwide bridge programs at community colleges and four-year universities that give incoming students a stepping stone to gain skills needed for academic achievement.

CPE prioritizes college affordability with historically low tuition caps

Credit Forbes The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education has capped tuition increases near historic lows for the next two years, limiting the cost increase to students while also providing financial flexibility for public colleges and universities. The move allows universities to raise tuition up to 3% through 2023 – an average increase of 1.5% each year. However, campuses may not increase rates more than 2% in any one year. The ceiling applies to tuition and mandatory fees for resident, undergraduate programs. The Council is also limiting tuition increases at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System to $5 per credit hour over the next two years. That’s equal to a maximum 2.7% increase through 2023. At most, KCTCS may raise the rate by $3 per credit hour in any one year.
