Hardin County Public Library will soon have science kits available for area children thanks to the Kentucky Science Center and Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives.
There will be 225 Do Science at Home STEAM kits available for children in grades 3-6. They also have six STEAM Explore kits to be checked out by families that include items such as a microscope, kitchen science equipment, conductors and insulators.
âDo Science at Home STEAM kits will help kids think big and act like creators and producers instead of just consumers,â said Nathalie Wilms, head of youth services at the public library.
Wilms gave the example of the Secret Agent Kit that allows students to combine imagination with STEAM skills to become pretend spies.

In partnership with the Kentucky State Board for the Certification of Librarians, the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA) within the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet has awarded the Library Science Tuition Scholarship to 10 public library professionals for the spring 2021 semester.
Kentucky law requires public libraries be staffed by personnel certified by the Kentucky State Board for the Certification of Librarians. In an effort to ensure that public libraries are able to meet these requirements, the board offers the Library Science Tuition Scholarship to help public library staff meet certification standards by completing college library science courses.
Elizabeth Whitlock of the LaRue County Public Library is one of 10 library staffers across Kentucky to receive a Library Science Tuition Scholarship for the spring semester.
