Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron is launching a new statewide task force to evaluate the process for securing, reviewing and executing search warrants across the commonwealth, his office announced Thursday. The move comes after months of intense scrutiny surrounding the search warrant that ultimately led Louisville Metro Police officers to Breonna Taylor s apartment March 13 and resulted in the 26-year-old Black woman s death.

AG Cameron Launches Kentucky Search Warrant Task Force

Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced the formation of the Attorney General’s Search Warrant Task Force to examine the process for securing, reviewing, and executing search warrants. In a statement released Thursday, Cameron said the task force fulfills his promise to convene a task force to develop best practices for the effective and safe execution of search warrants across the Commonwealth. Cameron explains that search warrants have received significant attention following the death of Breonna Taylor, who was shot and killed during the execution of a search warrant at her home in Louisville. In reviewing the search warrant process, the task force will be asked to consider law enforcement’s role in advancing public safety along with the personal protections guaranteed to citizens by the Constitutions of the United States and the Commonwealth.
