The local medical officer of health is encouraging residents to keep following public health measures, even as some restrictions in the region lift next week.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 19 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, as well as two additional deaths linked to the virus.
Five of the new cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, two are related to outbreaks and four are attributed to community spread. The transmission sources for the remaining seven cases remain under investigation by health unit staff.

The individuals who died as a result of COVID-19 were a man in his 80s who lived in long-term care and a woman in her 90s who lived in the general community.

A local retirement home employee has lost her life to COVID-19.
An obituary for 64-year-old Judy Hawkins, an activity assistant at Shoreview at Riverside, states she died “after a hard-fought battle against COVID-19” on Monday.

Those who knew Hawkins described her online as “easy to love,” and “a special person who touched the lives of everyone she met.”
She had worked at the retirement home on Drouillard Road for two years, “a job she loved, helping all of the residents on the fourth floor,” her obituary said.
