MONMOUTH, Maine The Monmouth Police Department said in a press release Friday that a standoff with a man who allegedly violated a protection order led Monmouth fire officials to block traffic on Route 126. Police said the standoff ended peacefully and the road is back open.
Kennebec County budget undergoes first review
County officials are proposing a $14.3 million spending plan, a 5.12% overall budget increase, which could mean nearly a 5.7% hike in what s raised through property taxes in Kennebec County.

AUGUSTA – As the Kennebec County budget committee completed its first review of the county’s proposed $14.3 million spending plan, its members are wondering how the latest federal stimulus package may affect that.
The short answer is that no one knows yet.
Kennebec County Administrator Robert Devlin said Thursday that guidance about how the $23 million the county is expecting may be used hasn’t been issued yet, but is expected by mid-May. The budget committee is expected to meet again May 12.

WINDSOR The owner of a day care has been charged with assaulting a child after a 19-month-old girl was found unresponsive at Little Beans Daycare after allegedly being wrapped in a blanket in a way that led to her being unable to breathe.
Savannah Brann, 24, of Windsor, was charged with aggravated assault, assault on a child less than six years old and endangering the welfare of a child by the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

After operating in emergency status for most of the winter, many local law enforcement agencies are back using more familiar patrol practices.
The result has varied by department. Arrests are up in some municipalities, down in others. Traffic stops are up in many departments as complaints of reckless driving have increased.
