Merck taps Davis for CEO role as Frazier sets plan to retire Emma Court and Riley Griffin, Bloomberg News Merck & Co. said Kenneth Frazier plans to retire as chief executive officer after a decade at the helm of the drug giant. Frazier, one of just four Black CEOs in the Fortune 500, will be succeeded by Robert M. Davis, Merck’s executive vice president for global services and chief financial officer. Davis was unanimously selected by Merck’s board for the post and will also be Merck’s new president as of April 1. Frazier, who will continue as executive chairman, will step down as chief executive on June 30, the company said in a statement.
