Two workers hurt in chemical spill at GE Healthcare in Westborough
WESTBOROUGH Two employees of GE Healthcare Life Sciences were injured Thursday morning as a result of 200 gallons of combustible liquid that spilled at the facility at 14 Walkup Drive.
One person suffered chemical burn injuries that were considered non life-threatening, and the other was hurt in a fall while evacuating the area, according to Fire Chief Patrick Purcell.
Firefighters went to the building after the Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call just before 7 a.m.
The Fire Department contacted a state hazardous materials team to help, and the chemical was determined to be a combustible liquid, Purcell said.

Here, we developed a bispecific antibody (bsAb; B7-H3×4-1BB), targeting human B7-H3 (hB7-H3) and mouse or human 4-1BB, to restrict the 4-1BB stimulation in tumors. Marlborough’s Cytiva, the rebranded GE Healthcare Life Sciences, has been named as a founding member of a forthcoming 40,000 square-foot manufacturing and innovation center at the The Arsenal on the Charles in Watertown, according to a Thursday press release from Harvard University.
Once ready, the facility will be home to the Massachusetts Center for Advanced Biological Innovation and Manufacturing, or CABIM, which was founded in 2019. The site is expected to open in early 2022.
