Long before COVID-19 hit New York, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier was serving meals across six counties to 21,702 food insecure people a week. An ever-persistent problem, relief organizations offered community meals, backpack programs and mobile food pantries to assist those people in need.
But the global pandemic would reveal even more of them, hidden in plain sight. For many families, the effects of the virus pushed them over the edge: a lost job, closed schools, quarantine.
