Christian Patin It seems appropriate for me to pick up the quill again to address something that has been buzzing around in the news especially in the past couple of weeks: the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops vote to draft a document on the “Meaning of the Eucharist in the Life of the Church” (usccb.org). I can’t help but put pen to paper this week in hopes of dispelling some assumptions and fears circulating about what this document seeks to do, and to bolster the unpopular views that the Catholic Church holds and why they matter. Of the 229 voting bishops, 168 voted for the measure, 55 voted against, and 6 abstained. This is a significant majority since, mere weeks prior to the vote, the scales seemed to be tipping the other way.
