MH gets swept at Russellville; girls' game goes to OT

The Lady Bombers went to overtime for the second time in their last three games, but they came up short, as the Lady Cyclones won 38-33. Russellville jumped out early on Mountain Home leading 12-5 at the end of the opening quarter. The Lady Cyclones’ offense quietened in the second period, with the Lady Bombers cutting the margin to two at the break. Mountain Home took its first lead late the third quarter, before Russellville tied it back up. The game had six ties, including 31-31 at the end of regulation to force the extra period. The Lady Cyclones had a two-point advantage late in overtime. With 9.2 seconds left, Kate Gilbert drove to the basket for the Lady Bombers and put up a shot with contact. Irish women get road win at Pittsburgh February 23, 2021 by Notre Dame Sports Information PITTSBURGH – Back in action for the first time in 15 days, the Notre Dame women’s basketball team (9-8, 7-6) made the most of it with a 59-48 victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers (5-11, 3-10). The Irish defense secured its best showing of the season, holding Pitt to a season-low point total. Two of Notre Dame’s freshmen took the spotlight inside the Petersen Events Center. Maddy Westbeld led with a 20-point, 11-rebound, double-double, her second of the season. Meanwhile, Olivia Miles tied her season high of 10 points for a season straight game.

MH girls begin home stand with loss to Alma

The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team started its five-game home stand on a rough note Friday. The Lady Bombers fell to Alma 56-53 in a game that was close throughout. Addison Yates came out firing, as she scored all 12 of Mountain Home’s first quarter points, but the Lady Airedales were never far away, as the game had five ties and three lead changes. Alma had a one-point lead at the break, and the score was tied at the end of the third period. The Lady Airedales built a seven-point lead, their largest advantage, on a pair of threes by Presli Taylor. The margin was two, with the Lady Bombers having an opportunity to tie or take the lead, but Alma came up with a steal, and Mountain Home was forced to foul with 2.9 seconds left. Halyn Carmack hit one of two free throws, and Yates had one more opportunity, but the shot from beyond half court was off the mark.

MH girls' comeback attempt falls short at Greenbrier

The Lady Bombers ended up falling to the Lady Panthers 45-37. Greenbrier jumped out early hitting seven three-pointers in the first half and went into the locker room leading Mountain Home 34-12. The tide turned in the third quarter, as the Lady Panthers were held to two points. The Lady Bombers were able to limit second chance opportunities, as they outrebounded Greenbrier 31-15 in the game. Mountain Home cut the margin to five in the final period, as the Lady Panthers were again held to one field goal, but Greenbrier was able to pull away by going 7 of 8 from the free throw line en route to an eight-point win.
