Break-in, Theft Charges Filed By Catawba County Authorities Against Burke County Man

30-year-old Gary Benjamin Stamper of Highway 70 SW in Connelly Springs was arrested Sunday (January 17) by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering. Stamper was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $8,000 bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled today (January 19).

Hickory Man Charged With Statutory Sex Offense

32-year-old Maynor Javier Yanez-Basquez of 22nd Avenue NE in Hickory was arrested today (January 18) by Hickory Police Officers. He’s charged with statutory sexual offense with a child 15-years-old or younger, kidnapping, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Yanez-Basquez was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $102,000 bond. District Court appearances are scheduled for Tuesday (January 19) and February 8.

Hickory Police located and arrested 44-year-old Chad McDaniel Byrd of Old Bristol Road in Boone Saturday (January 16) in connection to multiple breaking and entering cases that occurred in the Downtown area of Hickory.
Byrd was charged by Hickory Police with seven counts of felony breaking and entering, two felony counts of larceny after breaking and entering, four counts of misdemeanor injury to personal property, one count of felony possession of cocaine and one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Byrd is also charged in Caldwell County with four felony counts of breaking and entering and one felony count of larceny after breaking and entering.

Man Charged With Having Drugs At Jail

24-year-old Andrew Gray Stuart of Turnersburg Highway in Statesville was arrested Wednesday (January 13) on charges filed by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and Newton Police Department. He’s charged by the Sheriff’s Office with felony possession of controlled substance on prison or jail premises. Newton Police charged Stuart with hit and run, leave the scene with property damage and driving while license revoked. Stuart was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $5,000 bond. District Court appearances were scheduled today (January 15) and February 1.
35-year-old Christopher Reid Scronce of Springs East Road in Lincolnton was arrested Thursday (January 14) by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged on bills of indictment with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, Scronce is charged with failure to appear on a fugitive warrant, resisting a public officer, and multiple highway violations. Scronce was incarcerated in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $33,500. A Superior Court appearance was scheduled today. District Court appearances are scheduled for January 28 and February 22.
