Middle hitter Delaney Conner led CVCC (9-0, 7-0 in Region 10) with a team-high 11 kills, while outside hitter Carter Gibson and setter Amber Barker added seven kills each. Barker’s team-high 24 assists helped to facilitate a Catawba Valley attack that accounted for 37 total kills. Defensively, libero Caitlin Dailey recorded the most digs for CVCC with 13, and middle hitter Kennya Sykes recorded five blocks  part of a 14-block performance by the Red Hawks.

CVCC s Schroeder Named Community College Athletic Director of the Year

Catawba Valley Community College’s Nick Schroeder has been named a 2020-21 Junior/Community College Athletics Director of the Year (ADOY) award recipient by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Schroeder is just the third athletic director in Region 10 to receive the honor – a list that also includes Dr. Christopher Parker, who is now the CEO of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Only 71 junior college athletic directors have won the honor all time. “This is truly a great honor to be recognized by my fellow athletic directors for what we have created in the CVCC Red Hawks athletics program,” Schroeder said. “While it is my name listed on this honor, I can truly say this award represents everyone at CVCC from our President Dr. Garrett Hinshaw to our amazing coaches to all of the supportive and giving faculty and staff and most importantly all of our current and past student-athletes. CVCC s Dellinger and Smith Qualify Again for Nationals

Catawba Valley Community College anglers Jeremy Dellinger and Nathan Smith clinched another national tournament berth for themselves and the Red Hawk program on Saturday with their 17th-place finish in the 2021 Carhartt Bassmaster College Series on Lake Hartwell. Dellinger and Smith competed among a field of 260 teams, including three teams from CVCC, to earn their national tournament berth. “All three of our teams at Lake Hartwell had solid performances,” said CVCC bass fishing head coach Angela Mayo. “Jeremy Dellinger and Nathan Smith made some great adjustments after day one and moved up the leaderboard on day two for a 17th place finish out of 260 teams. It’s great to have a qualifying team for the 2021 B.A.S.S. College National Championship so early in the season.”

With the win, CVCC improves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 10 play. CVCC was without two of its leading hitters in the contest outside hitter Aasia McNeill and right side Saniya Harris. Despite those absences, Catawba Valley was able to extend its Region 10 unbeaten streak to 186 straight matches and conference unbeaten mark to 148 in a row.
