KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) Prosecutors in Wisconsin want a judge to allow evidence at Kyle Rittenhouse’s trial that shows he had a previous violent encounter in Kenosha before he fatally shot two men and injured another during a police brutality protest last year. The state’s motion filed in Kenosha County Circuit Court also seeks to show Rittenhouse was associated with the Proud Boys, a violent white power extremist group. The 18-year-old Rittenhouse is charged with killing Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and wounding Gaige Grosskreutz on Aug. 25 during protests in Kenosha over the police shooting two days earlier of Jacob Blake, a Black man who was left paralyzed by gunfire from a white officer during a domestic disturbance.

Prosecutors in Kenosha, Wisconsin, filed a motion on Thursday that asked Judge Bruce Schroeder to allow them to introduce evidence showing that the vigilante shooter Kyle Rittenhouse is associated with the fascist Proud Boys organization.
Kenosha County Assistant District Attorneys Thomas Binger and Jason Zapf filed their “other acts” motion in the prosecution of Rittenhouse, who has been charged with killing two men and injuring a third during protests against police violence on August 25, 2020.
The charges including homicide and attempted homicide are based on interviews with eyewitnesses who saw Rittenhouse brandishing an AR15-style assault rifle during the protests and firing it recklessly when he was confronted by protesters. “In both the July 1, 2020 incident and the August 25, 2020 incident, the defendant, an Illinois resident, willingly and intentionally put himself in violent situations in Wisconsin that do not involve him in order to commit further acts of violence,” the motion states.
Prosecutors also said Rittenhouse’s association with the Proud Boys should be considered at the trial because it shows that he takes pride in violence.
Photos taken in January show Rittenhouse drinking inside a Mount Pleasant bar and gesturing with what appeared to be a white power symbol. The motion states that prosecutors have since learned that the people with Rittenhouse at the bar included the leader of the Wisconsin Proud Boys chapter and several of its highest-ranking members.

The state filed an âother actsâ motion Thursday asking the court to admit evidence at Rittenhouseâs trial for shooting three men during protests in Kenosha last August. The shooting left two men dead and another seriously injured. Rittenhouse, 18, is charged with two counts of homicide and one of attempted homicide. He and his supporters have maintained that Rittenhouse was defending himself when he shot the men.
