María Pabón Gautier named Vice President for Equity and Inclusion

María Pabón Gautier will assume her role as vice president for equity and inclusion on June 1. St. Olaf College President David R. Anderson ’74 has announced the appointment of María Pabón Gautier as the college’s vice president for equity and inclusion. Pabón came to St. Olaf in 2019 to serve as the inaugural director of the Glenn and Myretta Taylor Center for Equity and Inclusion. She has served as the interim vice president for equity and inclusion since the beginning of spring semester, leading a campus-wide initiative to create a more inclusive community and partnering with programs and offices across campus. She will assume her role as vice president for equity and inclusion on June 1.

Janice A. Fiola Janice Ann Fiola passed away on May 15, 2021 after a prolonged illness. She was born February 6, 1947 in Worthington, Minnesota, the middle child of five children. Jan’s life was anything but “middle of the road”. A descendant of primarily German and Italian lineage, Jan appreciated the family’s ancestral traditions and quickly broadened her cultural curiosity to include the Latin culture. As a junior in Worthington High School, she travelled to Bogota, Columbia as part of a Girl Scout international program. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, a double major in Spanish and Sociology, from St. Catherine’s University in 1969.
