Hong Kong plans to allow vaccinated travellers from Singapore as part of travel bubble
As part of a push to get more of its population vaccinated, Hong Kong is planning to only allow those whoâve had Covid-19 shots to fly from the city to Singapore once both governments finalise a travel bubble, reports Bloomberg.
âThe basis for discussion with Singapore is that people leaving Hong Kong and entering Singapore need to be vaccinated,â Chief Executive Carrie Lam said at a briefing late Monday, when outlining a plan to give people more leeway with social-distancing rules if they get inoculated. âWe want to provide incentives to encourage Hong Kong citizens to get vaccinated,â she said.

South China Morning Post reports today that in addition to the quarantine skip, fully-vaccinated arriving crews may bypass isolation regardless of country of departure.
According to the news outlet, the relaxation of the guidelines came just hours after the government tightened restrictions for banning flights arriving from countries that are deemed “high risk,” particularly countries in which new coronavirus variants have been identified. Entry rules for passengers arriving from those countries were tightened as well.

A long-awaited Covid-19 travel bubble between Hong Kong and Singapore could be up by as early as mid-May, three sources have told the Post, kicking off a second attempt to revive quarantine-free tourism between the two major Asian financial hubs.
The exact launch date is still considered a moving target , according to those familiar with the discussions.
One of the sources said mid-May was the timeline authorities were working towards, but added it was still premature to disclose the new conditions.
Cathay Pacific Airways and Singapore Airlines will be the first two carriers to launch the bubble, as previously planned.

WASHINGTON – Cathay Pacific Airways, convinced that digital proof of coronavirus vaccination will bring about the return of safe international travel, asked its pilots and crew to try out a new mobile app that showed their vaccination status on a recent flight from Hong Kong to Los Angeles.
New York has rolled out “Excelsior Pass,” billed by the state as “a free, fast and secure way to present digital proof of COVID-19 vaccination” in case reopening sports and entertainment venues require proof of attendees’ status.
And Walmart, the largest private employer in the U.S., is offering electronic verification apps to patients vaccinated in its stores so they “can easily access their vaccine status as needed,” the company says.
