Landowners Minting Millions from Multi-billion Govt Projects Nairobi Expressway under construction in Westlands, Nairobi File The government has over the last few years embarked on infrastructure projects worth billions around the country. As the infrastructure projects are planned and eventually implemented, a number of landowners have found themselves smiling all the way to the bank as the government handsomely compensates them for land it wants to utilise for the projects.  In a gazette notice on March 5, 2021, the government through the National Land Commission (NLC) announced that it was set to acquire parcels of land for the Nairobi Expressway, Likoni Floating Bridge in Mombasa, the lower Nzoia irrigation development project in Siaya and Busia Counties.

Nairobi Expressway: Chinese Save Ksh177M Footbridge From Destruction 24 February 2021 - 1:41 pm A shade constructed for pedestrians at Bellevue Footbridge which crosses underneath the Nairobi Expressway at Mombasa Road courtesy The China Roads Bridge Corporation (CRBC) erected beams at the Ksh 177 million Bellevue footbridge at South C, and saved it from destruction while constructing the Nairobi Expressway.  Engineer Peter Mundinia, the Director-General at Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA), had assured Kenyans that the footbridge would be spared. However, the one located at General Motors (GM) will be demolished to pave way for the Ksh 62 billion elevated road.  Mundinia added that the superstructure of the Ksh 185 million GM footbridge was constructed using structural steel members which can be reassembled and repurposed at a different location.
