The narrow and heavily bumpy Ahero-Kisii-Isebania road has claimed many lives. Because of the many, frequent accidents, most public transport vehicle operators had quit using this road, leading to limited transport services.
Over the years, the key road linking Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii and Kisumu counties deteriorated, almost killing economic activities in one of the fastest growing towns in Homa Bay – Oyugis.
Just two years ago, Oyugis town had a single drive lane cutting through it. There were no walkways. The centre was initially characterised by makeshift structures erected on both sides of the road.

KeNHA to Close Section of Thika Road

The agency said that it would temporarily close the service lane at the Ruiru Toll Station next to St Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
The closure would, however, last for one day only on Sunday, April 4, 2021, to pave way for road works and repairs on the busy superhighway. KeNHA urges all motorists to exercise caution and patience while driving through road section on the aforementioned date of closure, the agency said.

Service lanes run parallel to the main road and allow local traffic to divert to certain premises. Where major roads are bordered by commercial or residential development, service roads are a safe way to allow vehicles to access the areas with little disruption to traffic.
The elevated road starts in Mlolongo, traverses Uhuru Highway and ends at the James Gichuru Road junction.
“The 66 KVA power lines that will facilitate the transfer of electricity cables recently arrived in the country. The transfer of other services is progressing,” Mr Macharia said.
He added that prefabrication of box girders is almost complete and that they would soon be installed on-site.

The latest development comes almost a year after the March 12, 2020 Gazette Notice by National Land Commission chairman Gershom Otachi, which ordered businesses to vacate.
