Clinical officers have called off their strike after signing a return-to-work formula with the government. Kenya Union of Clinical Officers Secretary-General George Gibore said the issues they had raised with the Ministry of Health before downing their tools for 26 days had been resolved.
The items they wanted addressed included being provided with adequate Personal Protective Equipment, better remuneration, comprehensive medical cover, and having a facility to specifically care for clinical officers who might get infected with Covid-19.

Clinical officers have handed Kenyans a new year gift, ending their 26-day long strike after coming to an agreement with the Ministry of health, a welcome relief for the healthcare sector overstretched with admissions.
Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) signed a return-to-work formula Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe at Afya House on Friday, its chairman Peterson Wachira said.

Kenya National Union of medical Laboratory officers has issued a 7-day ultimatum that will prompt a strike if they are not included in the ongoing dispute resolution mechanism between the government and health unions.
The strike will take effect on Tuesday, January 5 if the Union is not given an audience by the government and several of its issues not addressed.

NAIROBI, Kenya Doctors, pharmacists and dentists in Kenya called off a three-day strike over inadequate personal protective equipment and insurance Thursday after the government acquiesced to their most immediate demands.
However, most other health workers remained on strike as nurses and clinicians vowed to stay off the job until their different set of demands is met.
Two people reportedly died after they could not get anyone to attend to them at government hospitals in Mombasa and Nairobi, family members said.

STRIKING Kenyan doctors and nurses have made it clear that no threat will force them back to hospitals.
Nurses and clinical officers stood their ground after a meeting meant to resolve their strike flopped.
They were joined on strike by doctors on Monday with both doctors and nurses demanding better working conditions and enhanced allowances, among other issues.
Doctors had suspended their strike for 14 days to allow for more talks, but on Saturday, they announced resumption of the strike on Monday.
Doctors on Sunday vowed not to return to work until the Government addresses their demands.
