Daily vaccinations slowing down

 Genesee County has enough vaccines to meet the demand, and officials are reporting that the number of daily vaccinations is slowing down.  Ashley Herbig, emergency preparedness coordinator at the Genesee County Health Department, said, “Vaccine distribution is experiencing a decrease in recipients at this time. A number of factors can contribute to the decline that is being experienced in other areas and not just specifically Genesee County.”  As of Thursday, May 6, 250,563 vaccines have been administered in Genesee County, with 146,881 first shots. Approximately 44 percent of eligible people have received one dose, and 31 percent are fully vaccinated.  Capt. Richard Cronkright from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said the number of people coming to vaccine clinics has been decreasing.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said the woman had a broken femur and hip, was septic, and ultimately died. Her 50-year-old son, Michael Lagueux, was with her. When investigators spoke with Lagueux, there were inconsistencies and contradictions with his statements, the sheriff s office said.

Thirteen more cases have been confirmed in Orleans County with three more people admitted to the hospital. Meanwhile, in Wyoming County, a dozen more cases were confirmed. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is warning of seasonal asphalt paving and sealing scams. As the weather warms, paving projects will soon begin. Residents should be cautious if they are solicited by who appears to be a contractor offering to pave or seal a driveway. The Sheriff’s Office has already fielded one recent complaint in the county.

Corrections officer charged

 Reinhart was a corrections officer for the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.  Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson announced the charges during a press conference Wednesday, April 28. “We arrested one of our own,” he said.  Swanson said Reinhart had worked for the sheriff’s office since 2019.  The organization GHOST (Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team) of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office tracked approximately 450 messages between Reinhart and a GHOST decoy acting as a 15-year-old girl. Swanson said 118 of those messages and six pictures were sent while Reinhart was on duty.  “This guy doesn’t represent who we are,” the sheriff said. Swanson said anyone working with the public, including law enforcement, are to be held to a higher standard.
