Cannabis farmers jailed after police raid in Ashford

Two men have been jailed after being caught growing about £650,000 worth of cannabis.
Edison Cifiku and Amarildo Buzi were arrested during a dramatic police raid on an industrial unit in Lower Queens Road, Ashford.

An investigation was launched after several witnesses reported a strong smell of cannabis coming from the unit, and also spotted electrical wires on the site had been bypassed.
Officers visited the site and used a thermal imaging camera which showed that the unit was giving off a huge amount of heat.

Connor Harrison, of Canterbury, had earlier in the day committed a series of violent assaults in Whitstable on 9 September 2020, for which police were chasing him for.
These included assaults against two woman and a child. The 25-year-old has since been jailed for three years.
He was already the subject of a suspended sentence for controlling and coercive behaviour, according to Kent Police, and had threatened and assaulted a woman known to him as well as members of her family.
Michetti has been jailed for more than four years
A man who attempted to smuggle a group of illegal migrants into the UK hidden amongst tyres in the back of his van has been jailed for more than four years.
Italian national Mauro Michetti, 54, was stopped by Border Force officers at Dover’s Eastern Docks in the early hours of 22 October this year.
The officers searched the vehicle and found the seven illegal migrants hidden under a pile of old tyres that Mr Michetti claimed were bought in Brussels to sell in London.
The illegal migrants had been concealed in a boxed section of the van underneath the tyres. They were all Albanian men, aged between 27 and 43.

A man who attempted to smuggle a group of people into the UK hidden under tyres in the back of his van has been jailed for more than four years.
Italian national Mauro Michetti, 54, was stopped by Border Force officers at Doverâs Eastern Docks in the early hours of October 22 this year.

Man charged with arson after house fire in Charing near Ashford

A man has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life after a house fire in a village.
Officers were called to Downs Way in Charing near Ashford following the blaze at 5.40pm on Tuesday.

They arrested two men shortly after the incident and a third man was detained at about 1am the following morning.
Two fire engines were sent to the scene and nobody at the property was injured, but an officer later required hospital treatment for injuries sustained during one of the arrests. He has since been discharged.
