New Jersey’s balmy afternoon could turn into a stormy evening, according to weather forecasters.
The National Weather Service says there’s a risk of scattered rain showers and thunderstorms developing Tuesday evening, and some of the storms could be strong to severe, with gusty winds and small hail.
The western half of New Jersey has a higher probability of getting hit with severe thunderstorms than the eastern half, according to the latest forecast maps issued by the Storm Prediction Center, a federal agency affiliated with the National Weather Service.
One Airlifted As 40 Foot Boat Burns in Wildwood
The smoke from a boat fire in Wildwood Saturday morning could be seen for miles on a clear sunny day.
The City of Wildwood Fire Department says they were called out to Otten’s Harbor at about 10:30am for a fire. The 40 foot pleasure boat was docked in the 200 block of Dock Street.

As crews arrived, firefighters were advised of a burn victim who was taken inside a nearby business. Wildwood Crest EMS, along with AtlantiCare Paramedics, treated and transported the victim to the Cape May County Armory in Cape May Court House where the patient was transferred to a Medevac helicopter and airlifted to Jefferson University Hospital Burn Center in Philadelphia where the patient is listed in serious condition at this time. That person has not been identified.

Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston maintained its straight-A streak since the Leapfrog Safety report card began in 2012. It is one of only 27 in the country to earn an “A” in each of the 19 report cards.

New Jersey hospitals ranked 14th safest in the country based on how well they prevented infections, accidents and errors and communicated with their patients, the latest Leapfrog Hospital Safety report card released on Thursday found.
The scores for 68 acute care hospitals 26 A’s, 26 B’s, 15 C’s and one D helped New Jersey improve its standing from last fall, when it was 17th best, according to the report. Ten hospitals improved a grade and four hospitals slipped a grade. No hospital flunked. East Orange General Hospital scored the lowest with a D, the report said.
