The plan is to dispense 1,997 first shots in a single day possibly March 19 to pre-K through grade 12 staff in the Bourne, Sandwich, Falmouth, Mashpee and Upper Cape Tech school districts, he said. “It’s not just teachers. It’s everyone. It’s the bus drivers. It’s the custodians,” said Forget, who worked with state Rep. Steven G. Xiarhos, Sandwich Selectman David J. Sampson and Sandwich fire Chief John Burke to get the state Department of Public Health to approve the school as a vaccination site.

Towns on Cape Cod see surge of about 900 new COVID-19 cases in two weeks

The state Department of Public Health said in its daily report that Massachusetts had 4,985 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 Thursday, including 87 on the Cape and Islands. State public health officials said there were 45 new deaths among people with coronavirus 44 among those with confirmed cases and one death of a person with a probable case. The fatalities include one death in Barnstable County on Cape Cod, where 212 people with COVID-19 have died since March. Statewide, the number of deaths among people with confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 has reached 11,558. The average age at death of such a patient is 81, state public health officials said.
