Cape Town - A Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) industrial engineering student fears she may not be able to graduate after the institution allegedly lost her academic records.
Violet Jacobs from Bellville said after she graduated from mechanical engineering she decided to study industrial engineering.
âI got a few exemptions due to the subject overlap of the two courses. Upon graduating from mechanical engineering, I got my academic transcript listing all my subjects, including exemptions, and my diploma, but now that I m supposed to do my in-service training, CPUT s IT interface is preventing me from registering as it claims I need to do one specific subject, which I ve been exempted for.

An Eastern Cape girlâs dream of becoming the first chartered accountant in her family could come true after she was awarded a full scholarship by the Eric and Charmaine Mabuza Scholarship Foundation.
Nazi Kalase, 17, is one of the 26 students who have been granted full-time university scholarships by the organisation in partnership with Ithuba, the national lottery operator.
Nazi, Centane, Eastern Cape, is the firstborn in a family of three siblings and lives with her mother. She matriculated from the Zingisa Comprehensive High School.
As World Hearing Day is observed on Wednesday, activists believe there is still not enough awareness being done around hearing impairment and deafness.
Dr Dianne Bell from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology said because it’s an invisible disability, the constitutional rights for people with hearing impairment are often overlooked and they are excluded from conversations.
“A typical example is that we see now when the president addresses the nation on any development regarding Covid-19 in the country, there is only a sign language interpreter. Only 10% of the people living with hearing impairment in the country use sign language,” she told TimesLIVE.

A woman who allegedly lied about her qualification as a radiographer while working for the Eastern Cape health department is expected back in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday for the continuation of her trial.
While Asisipho Mbekela managed to outsmart her colleagues and patients at Livingstone Hospital into thinking that she was qualified to do the job, her embarrassing exam results an outright fail were previously highlighted in documents before court.

Professor Stephanie Burton is Professor in Biochemistry, and Professor at Future Africa, at the University of Pretoria.
