Cape Town - Cape Town police have been hard at work and their operations at the weekend proved successful.
In a statement, provincial police spokesperson Colonel André Traut said Sunday yielded significant results.
Eight suspects are expected to appear in the Simon s Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
According to Traut, on Sunday, members of the Fish Hoek police noticed a suspicious minibus taxi in the area.
“The vehicle and the occupants were searched, which resulted in the discovery of six unlicensed firearms and ammunition hidden in a concealed compartment in the vehicle,” Traut said.

Cape Town - A City lawyer has dismissed an application for a protection order against him by a woman activist known for helping the homeless in Sea Point as âflawed and vexatiousâ.
Fund-raising co-ordinator for the Souper Troopers non-profit organisation that feeds the homeless in the Sea Point area, Caryn Gootkin, filed the application against attorney Gary Trappler at the Cape Town Magistrateâs Court.
The case will be heard on January 20.
In her application Gootkin, a freelance writer, copy editor and mother of two, said: âThe respondent has called me names such as an anarchist and anti-establishment. The plain and direct meaning of these terms is that I support the idea that people must not recognise authority in order to create or abide by a state of disorder.
Disgruntled criminal lawyers said the speed at which the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) dealt with the bail applications of alleged underworld trio, Jerome “Donkie” Booysen, Mark Lifman, 56, and Willem Stevens, 66, and who were subsequently released on bail of R100,000, has set a dangerous precedent.
The men were arrested on 22 December 2020 on charges of murder and conspiracy to murder and released on bail within hours. Booysen and Stevens face an additional charge of money laundering.

An extradition battle between Dutch war criminal Guus Kouwenhoven and prosecutors in South Africa has swung in their favour, with the Western Cape High Court setting aside a previous finding that he should not be sent to the Netherlands.
The ruling made on Wednesday likely presents a major legal stumbling block for Kouwenhoven, who has been based in South Africa for several years, and from where he has been fighting against extradition.
In February this year, the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court found in Kouwenhoven’s favour ruling that he could not be extradited because South Africa’s Extradition Act only allowed for someone to be extradited if the alleged offences were committed within the State wanting the extradition approved.
