CAPE VINCENT â An inmate at Cape Vincent Correctional Facility was allegedly found to have what the corrections officersâ union describe as a weapon up his nose.
The New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association Inc. said in a prepared statement Monday that an officer conducting a contraband search of an inmate on Jan. 29 uncovered an item stuffed up the nostril of the inmate. The item turned out to be a piece of ceramic sharpened on one end and melted into a plastic cap.
The weapon was placed into evidence and the inmate was placed in a Special Housing Unit pending disciplinary charges. The inmate, who was not identified by the union, is serving an 18-year prison sentence imposed in Bronx County in 2007 for a second-degree attempted murder conviction.

TOWN OF CAPE VINCENT, N.Y. (WWNY) - Suspected drugs hidden inside mailed packages were seized at Cape Vincent Correctional Facility this week.
That’s according to the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association.
The union said officers processing mailed packages to inmates located contraband in two mailed packages at the medium security prison.
On Monday, an officer inspecting boxes of Dove soap noticed irregularities in the boxes. The boxes were opened and the officer found 36 grams of a green leafy substance suspected to be either marijuana or synthetic marijuana.

CAPE VINCENT, N.Y. (WWNY) - An officer processing packages mailed to inmates at Cape Vincent Correctional Facility found whatâs suspected to be drugs in cans of food.
The New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association says the officer was x-raying a package from downstate New York on December 22 and noticed unusual objects inside three cans.
The cans were opened and inside were cellophane bundles containing a total of 7.5 ounces of a green leafy substance.
CAPE VINCENT â A âgreen leafy substanceâ believed to be drugs was seized last week at Cape Vincent Correctional Facility after a corrections officer intercepted the package, according to the correctional officersâ union.
A corrections officer at the facility was processing a package through an x-ray machine on Dec. 22, and noticed âunusual objectsâ inside three cans that were mailed to the north country medium security prison from downstate.
The suspected drugs were seized and taken for additional testing, according to a release from the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association. The three bundles weighed a combined 7.5 ounces.
According to the union, nearly 4,000 pieces of contraband have been seized at prisons across New York state this year, marking the fourth consecutive year the union has seized that much contraband.
