CEPD provides update on planning for nourishment project
By CEPD - | Feb 9, 2021
In its winter newsletter released to the public last week, the Captiva Erosion Prevention District reported that planning for the 2021-22 beach nourishment project is well under way.
The CEPD has been working closely with its engineering firm, economists and the local wildlife commissions. To keep the cost of the periodic nourishment as low as possible, it will consider a project start period within the next 12 months when considering the bids from contractors. Once the project begins, construction will take place for approximately four to six months until completion. Public bidding for a contractor will take place by mid-April. Once a contractor is selected, the project timeline will be solidified by May or June.

The Captiva Erosion Prevention District’s commission recently approved full-term seats for two interim members and reorganized its leadership, as well as heard a presentation on Captiva’s tax contributions.
At the Dec. 7 meeting, the commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Rene Miville to Seat 2 and Richard Pyle to Seat 5. Pyle was appointed in November 2019 after former Commissioner Dave Jensen left, and later Miville was appointed in July after former Commissioner Michael Lanigan resigned.
Prior to the votes, Administrator Director John Riegert reported on other possible candidates.
