Liverpool’s Premier League title defence suffered a damaging blow as Brighton earned a shock 1-0 win at Anfield, while Manchester City moved three points clear at the top with a 2-0 victory against Burnley on Wednesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side paid the price for a sloppy display as Steven Alzate’s second half strike gave struggling Brighton a memorable success at the expense of the injury-hit champions.

Manchester City reopened a three-point gap at the top of the Premier League as they beat Burnley 2-0 for a 13th straight win in all competitions.
It was routine stuff for a City side in ominous form going into Sunday’s meeting with Liverpool as Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling put them in control before the break, the only complaint being their failure to add to the lead in the second half.
Burnley are without a win over City since March 2015, and any hopes they might have had of ending that run at the 14th attempt were all but extinguished less than three minutes in.

LONDON (Reuters) - In keeping with a bizarre Premier League season lacking the usual home comforts Liverpool s grip on their title was loosened further as they were beaten 1-0 at Anfield by Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday.
Steven Alzate s scruffy 56th-minute goal was enough for Brighton to record a deserved first league win over Liverpool since 1982 and leave Juergen Klopp s champions trailing Manchester City by seven points having played a game more.
