This statement comes after yesterday s announcement that The Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI) will allow the Boeing 737 MAX to operate passenger flights, subject to close oversight, following the grounding of the aircraft after two tragic accidents Lion Air Flight 610 on October 29, 2018 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 on March 10, 2019. The ban on the aircraft operating in Cayman Islands’ airspace was lifted following similar decisions by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The introduction of the pre-arrival test as a pre-screening method is another layer of protection for the community. However, it is understood that within the 72-hour period following the test it is possible to be exposed to the COVID-19 virus, therefore additional measures such as PCR testing on arrival and completion of the 14 day quarantine period is still required.

According to officials, both Mack and Ramjeet completed their sentence in accordance with Cayman law but received shorter sentences due to a lack of precedent that was in place, given that it was the first such case under Cayman s more stringent COVID-19 regulations.
