The Cameron County Public Health Department reported an additional 78 COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of cases in the county to 40,708, according to a press release issued Monday afternoon.
The new cases include four children ages 9 and under, and six people ages 10 to 19. Two residents ages 70 to 79 were also reported.
The county did not report any additional COVID-19 related deaths. The current total of deaths is 1,637.
As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed and continues to monitor the situation.

Several Cameron County entities will hold COVID-19 vaccination clinics after the county announced the Cameron County Public Health Department will allocate 6,000 first-dose Moderna vaccines, with the state of Texas providing another 1,000 vaccines.
The state of Texas will vaccinate 1,000 individuals at a vaccination clinic set for Wednesday, April 7 in Port Isabel, according to a news release from the office of Cameron county judge Eddie Trevino Jr.

The Brownsville Independent School District will provide second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to district employees in a drive-thru clinic.
The clinic will be held at Veterans Memorial Early College High School – located at 4550 U.S. Military Hwy 281in Brownsville starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, April 1.
1,000 Moderna second dose vaccines will be made available by the Cameron County Public Health Department, according to a news release from the district.
There is new medical help for COVID-19 patients in the Valley. State and local officials have teamed up to establish a Therapeutic Infusion Center in Harlingen – specifically at the Casa de Amistad conference hall.
The Infusion Center will be used to treat COVID-19 patients who meet the right criteria with bamlanivimab. The drug has been shown to keep COVID patients with mild or moderate symptoms out of the hospital.
During the summer, Casa de Amistad was turned into an alternate care facility to ease the burden on hospitals in Cameron County that were overwhelmed as the coronavirus was ravaging the region. It is now operating as an Infusion Center through the efforts of the Texas Division of Emergency Management, the Cameron County Public Health Department, and the city of Harlingen.
