ACCC suffers humiliating loss in country s first cartel case

ACCC suffers humiliating loss in country’s first cartel case Save Share The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has suffered a humiliating defeat in the nation’s first cartel prosecution, with a Federal Court jury exonerating healthcare equipment maker Country Care and two executives. Following a 12-week trial, the jury returned its unanimous verdict on Wednesday afternoon after less than four hours of deliberations on price-fixing charges laid against the Mildura family business. Not guilty: Country Care managing director Robert Hogan.  The case has been closely watched ahead of the blockbuster trial of ANZ, Deutsche Bank and Citi, and six of their executives, for allegedly breaching anti-cartel laws during a $2.5 billion capital raising for ANZ in 2015.
