N.J. s vaccine shipment drops
Officials warn there will be fewer vaccine doses shipped to the state, especially of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
“We received a large infusion of J&J at the end of March,” said state Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli. “But the sense we have from the federal government is that for the short term our allocation of J&J will be severely restricted for the next several weeks.”
Last week, New Jersey received 550,000 vaccine doses. This week, the state will get 466,000 representing a 15% drop in shipments. The number of J&J doses will also plummets from 131,000 doses to 15,600 doses, an 88% drop.

Some South Jersey inoculation sites are said to be so awash in precious vaccines that Gov. Phil Murphy announced at his Wednesday COVID-19 update that hundreds or thousands of appointments were available, especially at the mega-site operated by the state (withAtlantiCare) at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
In fact, by the time you read this, the governor and First Lady Tammy Murphy may have filled two of the Atlantic City slots. They’re slated to get their first vaccinations there today in an event that surely will be turned into a grinning photo-op.

The Camden County Vaccination Center, located at Camden County College in Blackwood, has the ability to offer doses of the Moderna vaccine this Monday to eligible residents, according to Patch.com.
The vaccines will be available by appointment only on Monday through camdencountyvaccine.com or by phoning (856) 549-0530 or (800)-999-9045.
Clinic hours have reportedly been extended to accommodate the new appointments.
Although the county recently received an influx of the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, those have been administered, but Moderna remains available. Camden County does not yet have the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine available, Patch.com reports.
The others in the top five are Somerset County, Bergen County, Morris County and Cape May County.

New Jersey officials said they are expecting a 96% decline in the state’s supply of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines over the next two weeks, but they remain confident there will be enough doses available to support the state’s plan to vastly expand immunization eligibility in 10 days.
Gov. Phil Murphy defended his strategy Wednesday, stressing that opening eligibility on April 19 to those over age 16 does not mean everyone who qualifies will immediately come forward to be immunized. He compared it to boarding an airplane row by row, in that you don’t wait for everyone in one section to get on before calling the subsequent group.
