The world’s first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were administered this week in the United Kingdom a milestone in the global pandemic that’s left a toll on nearly every aspect of life in 2020, one unprecedented in modern times.
But while Britons received doses of the shot developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, officials here in the United States were still looking over the vaccine, with an emergency authorization from the Food and Drug Administration potentially arriving within days.
