The findings could pave the way for regulators to clear the vaccine for adolescent use in the coming months, allowing many high school and middle school students to be inoculated before they head back to school this fall. Vaccine makers have also begun testing their shots in children 11 and younger.

TRACKING THE COVID-19 VACCINE Share Updated: 5:57 AM EDT Mar 16, 2021 One year ago, on the same day that Massachusetts schools were ordered to close because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a local company began the first phase of testing a coronavirus vaccine.The vaccine from Cambridge-based Moderna was given to the first of 45 participants in the Phase 1 trial on March 16, 2020. The testing that would ultimately lead to authorization of the vaccine began with a careful jab at the Kaiser Permanente Washington Research Institute in Seattle.The first patient was Jennifer Haller, a mother of two. “We all feel so helpless.
