KITCHENER Cambridge Memorial Hospital has taken over management of Cambridge Country Manor, a long-term care home currently dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak. The Ministry of Long-Term Care approved the Voluntary Management Contract on Friday. The home is licensed under Caressant-Care Nursing and Retirement Homes Limited. The province said the agreement will help manage the spread of COVID-19 in the home and stabilize the situation. The outbreak was declared on Dec. 8. As of Friday, 47 residents and 44 staff members have tested positive for the disease, a jump of more than 20 cases from the day before. Protecting our long-term care residents is our top priority and we are doing everything we can to keep them safe, said Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care, in a news release.

Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) has cancelled all elective surgeries effective Dec.18 in an effort to create additional capacity.
The hospital made the announcement Thursday Dec. 17, citing concerns over widespread transmission of COVID-19 in the community. Adding to our circumstance, the Medicine A Unit is also in outbreak, which restricts the ability for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to surge if beds are needed, reads the written notice sent out by the hospital.
KITCHENER Cambridge Memorial Hospital has cancelled elective surgeries as COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Waterloo Region and across the province. In a notice on their website, hospital officials said the hospital is actively reverting back to a previous level of service to make sure there is adequate capacity for COVID-19 patients. Indications in the region suggest our community transmission is now widespread, as evidenced by recent outbreaks and growing daily counts, the notice read in part. Officials said the hospital is also dealing with an outbreak in the Medicine A Unit. The post-anaesthetic care unit will be used to meet the growing demands of the ICU, the notice said.
KITCHENER The Cambridge Memorial Hospital announced Wednesday that patients can now book their COVID-19 tests online. According to a news release, the new online portal will work alongside the phone system in an effort to improve wait times for people using both. The virtual call centre was put in place due to the high volumes of patients needing tests. People were having to call multiple times to get through, said director of diagnostic imaging Cheryl Livingston in the release. Although this technology helped, call volumes still remain high and some people are on hold for up to an hour or more to book a test. For this reason, we invested in an online registration portal that will accommodate those wanting the option of online registration.
