(TSX: ENB) (NYSE: ENB), a North American energy infrastructure company, and wpd, a European renewable energies company, are announcing the launch of construction activity on the Calvados offshore wind farm (Courseulles-sur-Mer). This announcement follows the finalisation of financing agreements between the consortium and its financial partners. The 448-MW Calvados offshore wind project is comprised of 64 wind turbines located more than 10km from the Bessin coastline and occupies a total surface area of approximately 45km². Upon its commissioning, scheduled in 2024, it will generate the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 630,000 people, or over 90% of the Calvados French department s population.

Both the wind turbine nacelles and blades for the Courseulles-sur-Mer project are scheduled to be produced at the Siemens Gamesa facility currently under construction in Le Havre. The 448 MW project will rely upon the stable technology of the SWT-7.0-154 Direct Drive offshore wind turbine, a part of the world’s most installed offshore turbine fleet. Installation and commissioning of the Courseulles-sur-Mer project is scheduled for 2024. Together with the 497 MW Fécamp offshore wind power project signed with the EDF Renewables-Enbridge-wpd consortium in 2020, Siemens Gamesa has now signed firm orders with them for approximately 1 GW. 22 March 2019 15:13 GMT Updated  2 April 2019 10:11 GMT Developer Windpark Fryslân has awarded a conditional contract to build a 383MW nearshore wind farm in the Netherlands that would be the largest yet to be constructed on a lake. The deal for the project on the Ijsselmeer artificial lake went to Zuiderzeewind, a consortium of installer Van Oord and wind turbine OEM Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE). SGRE in August 2018 had already been named preferred supplier for the €500m ($564m) Fryslân project, which is supported by the Dutch province of Friesland. A final investment decision is expected for the third quarter of this year.
