China Denounces Ex-Peruvian President for Getting Coronavirus

China’s state-run propaganda outlet the Global Times on Monday ran cover for domestically developed coronavirus vaccines after ex-Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra announced that he and his wife had tested positive for the Chinese coronavirus after receiving the Sinopharm vaccine in October. Vizcarra reportedly received the vaccine illicitly, part of an ongoing scandal known as the “VIP vaccine” events in Peru and Argentina where politicians and their friends received doses of Chinese coronavirus vaccines before medical authorities had approved their use for the general public. Vizcarra announced via Twitter on Sunday that he and his wife had tested positive for the Chinese coronavirus and had entered quarantine. Significant life expectancy increase for adults living with HIV on ART in Latin America

E-Mail Study of 30,000 adults living with HIV receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Latin America and the Caribbean finds life expectancy has increased to within 10 years of the general population in these countries over the last two decades. Disparities in life expectancy due to demographic and clinical factors at the point participants began ART (including sexual HIV transmission risk, low CD4 cell count, and history of tuberculosis) highlight an ongoing need to reach vulnerable populations in the region. Life expectancy among adults living with HIV receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Latin America and the Caribbean has increased significantly since HIV testing and treatment services became more widely available, according to research published today in

Investigations are ongoing as the country struggles to inoculate its general population with limited doses, writes Luke Taylor for Nature. The scandal emerged on 10 February, when local media revealed that in October 2020, then-president Martín Vizcarra had received two doses of a vaccine developed by the Chinese state-owned pharmaceutical group Sinopharm. At the time, a phase III clinical trial was under way to test the vaccine at two universities in Peru; Vizcarra was not part of the trial. Days later, it emerged that a group of around 470 other people – including 100 high-profile indiv
