JERSEY SHORE Today, employees at Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital began receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Within 24 hours of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arriving at the hospital, staff began administering the first of two doses to front-line health care workers at the facility.
Geisinger is providing the vaccine to front-line staff whose daily work involves significant interactions with COVID-19 patients and other staff in critical departments. This vaccination plan is in alignment with Pennsylvania Department of Health and federal guidelines for providing the vaccine in this initial phase. The first vaccinations occurred at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center on Wednesday.
COVID-19 vaccines arrived for front-line health care workers at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
Some GCMC medical workers received their first of two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine Thursday, the same day a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel overwhelmingly recommended a second vaccine for emergency use in the United States. Final authorization of that vaccine, made by Moderna, is expected as early as today.
As distribution of the Pfizer vaccine continues over the coming weeks, state Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said Thursday that officials are âhopefulâ doses of Modernaâs vaccine will be distributed beginning next week.
