Additional expenditures at ₹ 1,164 cr; revenue mop-up at ₹ 200 cr
Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac has presented a Covid-dented State budget for 2021-22 that provides for additional expenditures of ₹ 1,164 crore and tax concessions of ₹ 191 crore against additional revenue mobilisation of just ₹ 200 crore, leaving a cumulative deficit of ₹ 1,306.69 crore.
Isaac presented his 12th overall and the last budget of the Pinarayi Vijayan government on Friday which observers dubbed as an election-oriented one. The jobs-welfare-doles theme rang loud and clear in the budget after it earned a swashbuckling win for the ruling Left Democratic Front in elections to the local bodies held in December. Assembly elections are due in next four months.

Replying to questions during the Question Hour in the Kerala Assembly, the Finance Minister said that some people were disturbed by the growth the state is going to make with the funding from KIIFB. There was C&AG audit of KIIFB earlier too. The government is not against any auditing. But a constitutional body like C&AG shouldn t try to defame KIIFB. This time, C&AG acted with mala fide intention. Some people are unable to accept the growth Kerala is trying to make with funding from KIIFB, said Isaac replying to a question in the state assembly.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], December 29 (ANI): Kerala Finance MinisterThomas Isaac appeared before the Assembly Privileges and Ethics Committee on Tuesday after a complaint on breach of privilege against him was moved by Congress legislator VD Satheesan for leaking a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report.
Kerala Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan has forwarded the breach of privilege notice against Finance Minister Thomas Isaac to Privileges and Ethics Committee.
Thomas Isaac after appearing before the committee said that he is ready to face any consequences and take full responsibility of his action.
