Budget allocates ₹69 crore for the purpose
The Fire and Rescue Services Department is elated over the retention of the same budgetary allocation of ₹69 crore for its modernisation as in the previous budget.
It is being perceived as largesse on the part of the government to be considerate to the needs of the department despite financial constrains in the wake of the pandemic.
Senior department sources said the allocation would go a long way in going ahead with modernisation proposals like replacement of the old fleet of vehicles with technically advanced ones. “We have prioritised our proposals like purchase of turntable ladders for firefighting in high-rises. First response vehicles, the first to rush to the scene in the event of an emergency, and new water tenders and water lorries are also on the priority list,” sources said.

Hopes of the Amballoor electronic hardware park getting a boost in the budget received a jolt, as there was no specific allocation for speeding up the much-delayed project.
Except for a mention that the construction of the park would be intensified, there were no details on sanctioning funds for land acquisition. “The project had hit a roadblock after the land acquisition process got delayed indefinitely. The authorities could acquire land belonging to a few persons only,” said Manoj Kumar P.K., former vice president, Amballoor grama panchayat.

Consortium fails to meet minimum eligibility criteria
The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has refloated tenders for the centralised waste-to-energy plant of 300 tonnes per day capacity to be implemented on public-private partnership (PPP) mode at Brahmapuram.
Tenders were refloated after one of the two consortiums that had submitted technical and financial bids failed to qualify, as per the evaluation done by the committee constituted by the government.
