Elderly siblings found living in dingy surroundings
The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken up the case of 69-year-old Prabhakaran and his differently abled brother who live in a house, the courtyard of which is completely waterlogged and filled with garbage.
Acting on a complaint filed by human rights activist K.P. Sathyakrishnan, the commission directed the Kozhikode Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) and the Kozhikode Corporation Secretary to investigate the complaint and submit a report within 15 days.
Prabhakaran and his brother live in a house that is nearly a century old at East Nadakkavu in Kozhikode on Wayanad Road. The house is situated in a low-lying area. In fact, it happened after multi-storey buildings came up around the house over the years, and water from them drains into Prabhakaran’s courtyard whenever it rains.

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has demanded an explanation from the Chief Conservator of Forests
and the Kozhikode District Forest Conservator within two weeks on the wild elephant attacks in the district that recently resulted in the loss of two lives.
The Commission had suo motu registered a complaint based on newspaper reports on wild elephant attacks at Konoorkandi, a border village in the district. K. Baijunath, judicial member of the commission, had analysed the allegations that the incidents were caused by the carelessness of the Forest Department. He asked the department to conduct an immediate inquiry and submit a report.

Sensitise students, parents to cybercrimes, officials told
The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch, to take necessary steps and develop effective methods to curb child pornography and other sexual crimes against children in the State. Acting on a petition filed by a human rights activist in Kannur, Commission member K. Byjunath had sought reports from the Director of General Education as well as the IGP of the Crime Branch. The Commission has come up with a set of recommendations for schools as well as the police in this regard.
