The committee of experts constituted to study the problems dogging ornamental fisheries in the State has suggested, among other things, promoting indigenous varieties for export, establishing an aquatic quarantine centre, easing the process of brood stock imports to encourage local entrepreneurs, and setting up a laboratory for repackaging export consignments.

A fully autonomous School of Forensic Science for Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) and a library complex for Union Christian College at Aluva on its centenary year figure among key announcements for the higher education sector in Ernakulam in the budget.
The proposed School of Forensic Science will give a boost to Cusat’s ongoing efforts to develop postgraduate programmes and expand research in the field. “We had launched an M.Sc programme in Forensic Science in association with the Kerala Police Academy this academic year. With the setting up of the school, research and learning can be enhanced by exploring the inter-disciplinary linkages,” said K.N. Madhusoodanan, Vice Chancellor.

The State’s higher education sector is set to make a gradual transition to a blended mode of learning with the government deciding to resume offline classes in a phased manner from January 1.
A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday decided to permit final-year undergraduate and postgraduate classes of arts and science colleges and related universities in the initial phase with half the student strength at a time.

KOCHI: The selection process for the vice chancellor of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (Kufos) has entered the next stage with the names of four candidates picked by the CPM state secretariat emerging as top contenders.They include Sundareshan Pillai of New Delhi-based National Institute of Science Communication And Information Resources (CSIR-NISCAIR), K K Vijayan of Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), M C Subhash Peter from the zoology department of the University of Kerala and Abdulla Bava, director, research and development, Advanced Technology Institute in Japan. The four have been shortlisted from the initial list of nine candidates.
