The district’s daily COVID-19 caseload continued to hover close to the 1,000-mark as 981 more cases were reported on Monday. The number of active cases consequently mounted to 6,585, even as 497 people recovered from the illness.
The death toll also continued to rise alarmingly with five more deaths that had occurred during the last three days being attributed to COVID-19.
The deceased include three males, who were aged 77, 73 and 60, and two females, who were aged 76 and 48. At 926, Thiruvananthapuram led in terms of COVID-19 deaths by a distance. The district also had a case fatality ratio (CFR) of 0.79. While Kozhikode has the second-highest number of deaths (557), Kannur came second in terms of CFR (0.53).

AAA The Kozhikode district administration has imposed more curbs on public life on Sundays in view of the worsening COVID-19 situation here. Public places, including beaches, parks and tourism destinations, will remain closed. Public transport facilities and healthcare institutions, however, can function normally.
People have been asked not to venture out for non-essential needs. Gathering of more than five persons has been prohibited. District Collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao said the steps had been necessary under Section 4 of the Kerala Epidemic Diseases Ordinance, 2020, to control the epidemic. Shops selling essential things may remain open till 7 p.m. Any violation would incur penal action, said Mr. Rao.

196 patients recover from disease, active cases at 4,665
The COVID-19 caseload continued its upward trend in the district with 579 more people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 on Tuesday. With 196 patients recovering from the illness, the number of active cases was 4,665.
The pandemic has so far claimed 901 lives. Two more deaths – those of two men, aged 67 and 60 – were attributed to the disease on the day. The case fatality ratio stood at 0.8, much higher than in Kannur (0.54) and Alappuzha (0.5) that trailed Thiruvananthapuram.
The district administration placed 1,613 people under quarantine during the last 24 hours, while 1,100 others were permitted to conclude quarantine. There were currently 19,416 people who are undergoing quarantine in various parts of the district.
