State mulling idea of making vaccine: CM

‘Aim is to open branches of manufacturing firms in the capital’ The State government is again contemplating the prospects of vaccine production in the State and has initiated discussions with experts in the area of vaccine manufacturing, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Friday. The government was exploring whether branches of vaccine manufacturing firms could be opened on the campus of the Institute of Advanced Virology in the capital, he added. A webinar is being hosted to discuss the possibilities of taking this project forward, in which experts in the area of vaccinology, IAV scientists as well as the State Council for Science Technology and Environment will participate.

First batch of COVID-19 vaccines directly procured by Kerala arrives

Updated: Share Article AAA The first batch of 3.5 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine, directly procured by the State Government, arrived at Kochi on Monday and was moved to the warehouse of Kerala Medical Services Corporation Ltd., the State’s purchasing agency. Following the Centre’s announcement of the new vaccine policy, which left the States to fend for itself when it came to procuring vaccines for administering to the 18-45 years age group, Kerala had decided to purchase a crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine – 75 lakh doses of Covishield and 25 lakh doses of Covaxin – directly from the manufacturers. Though the negotiations had been initiated, both vaccine manufacturers, Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech, had expressed their inability to supply the vaccine in bulk quantities to the State, as they had prior vaccine commitments to the Centre which had to be met first.

Vitamin A dose ensured for children: DMO

Response to directive of rights panel The District Medical Officer (DMO) has informed the Kerala State Human Rights Commission that availability of Vitamin A for administering to children has been ensured in all health care institutions in the district. This follows an intervention of the commission. Acting on a complaint from human rights activist Ragam Rahim, commission chairperson Antony Dominic directed the DMO to ensure that the Vitamin A paediatric oral solution is distributed without any disruptions. The DMO informed the commission that following an order on May 8, 2019, 8,000 bottles of the medicine were distributed to health care institutions, but later, on the directions of Kerala Medical Services Corporation Ltd. the distribution was halted.

Shylaja has said. The Minister said here on Friday that as the Centre had given strict instructions regarding the conduct of RT-PCR tests for those coming from abroad, the tests cannot be avoided. The traveller would be allowed to leave the airport after giving the sample and the results would be sent within 6-8 hours to the mobile number provided.
