According to the CDC, one in 54 children has autism. In Minnesota, one in 44 children has it. To better serve the families who have kids with autism, a new Caravel Autism Health Center has opened in Hermantown.
Monday was an exciting day, with the grand opening and a ribbon cutting to mark the new clinic located at 4140 Richard Avenue.
The center is filled with brightly colored, sensory-friendly spaces where therapists work one-on-one with children. The goal is to help them develop new skills and create connections with others, while helping the kids build confidence. It s really critical to not just treat the child, but to give them the opportunity to also practice that therapy in the homes, says Zachary Campbell, Clinical Director. A lot of our children with autism have speech delays, so they might need speech therapy. occupational therapy. physical therapy. So it s really important that we work collaboratively.
