At a drive-through vaccination facility in the Hudson County town of Kearny, dozens of masked, trained nurses, EMTs, support staff and sheriff's deputies process 12 cars every 20 minutes, with at least one patient sitting in each car, on site to receive a dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Since opening last month the Hudson County Vaccine Distribution Center has now administered 94 percent of the vaccines it has received, well above the state’s recommended 60 percent threshold.
On Friday, Jan. 15, it began offering vaccinations to seniors and residents with underlying health conditions.
“Over the past three weeks, the Hudson County Vaccine Task Force has been working around the clock to administer COVID-19 vaccines to our healthcare workers and first responders,” said Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise. “Because of the dedication and commitment of our frontline heroes, our county-operated vaccination center is surpassing all state goals. We will continue to expand our operations to ensure that every Hudson County resident has access to this lifesaving vaccine when they become eligible.”

Hudson County’s vaccination program is outpacing state expectations, having distributed roughly 70% of its first shipment of vaccines.
The county has received 1,700 doses of vaccines from the state, and as of Wednesday, had administered 1,160 of them at the Hudson Regional Health Commission’s vaccination site in Kearny. The state expected the county to have distributed 60% of its first shipment by now, officials said.

COVID-19 vaccines are being distributed across North Hudson, most recently in Secaucus and West New York.

Secaucus began administering COVID-19 vaccines at its municipal Vaccination Point of Distribution (POD) on Dec. 30. A very limited batch of Moderna vaccines were administered to healthcare workers and emergency personnel working at the town’s Vaccination POD, a trailer and heated tent outside the Recreation Center.
