Man told to hand compensation and letter of apology to his victim

A man who damaged the wing mirror of a Range Rover brought €800 to court by way of compensation but was told to hand the money to the victim along with a letter of apology.
John McDonnell, Knockrush, Boyle, Co Roscommon pleaded guilty at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court to criminal damage to a wing mirror of a Range Rover jeep belonging to James Lannon on November 24, 2019. A charge of assaulting James Lannon on the same occasion was withdrawn and struck out.
The court heard the victim in this case was socialising in a pub in Boyle when the wing mirror of his Range Rover was kicked and damaged by the defendant.

Judge Kevin Kilrane asked a man, currently on remand, and who pleaded guilty to three more offences, if he intended to spend the rest of his life in jail.
Appearing before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court on Tuesday, January 19, was Damian Sherlock, 2 Hartley Cross, Lavender Lodge, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim
He pleaded guilty to burglary from a shed at the rear of the property at 8 Cappagh, Mohill on June 22, 2020 and the theft of 8 cans of alcohol value €16, property of Fintan Greenan, and threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour at Paul s shop, Main St, Mohill, on the same date.
Sentenced to eight months for thefts in episode of shame

A man who broke into houses in Boyle and Keadue and also stole a purse from an unlocked car was sentenced to eight months in jail with the final five months suspended in what the Judge described as “an episode of shame.”
Appearing before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court on Tuesday, January 19, was David Freeman, 2 Liosbeg, Keadue, Co Roscommon.
He pleaded guilty to entering a building owned by Miriam O Connor at Grevisk, Boyle on two occasions on April 27, 2019 and May 18, 2019. He stole copper piping and assorted garden tools valued at €100.
The robbery happened at a premises in the Glencar area around 9:40 on Sunday morning.
It was reported that a man entered the premises armed with what was described as a gun and threatened staff before fleeing the scene on foot with a sum of cash and a quantity of cigarettes.
Following on from the incident, Gardaí responded to reports of a vehicle theft.
Gardai arrested the driver, a man aged in his 20s in Donegal Town yesterday afternoon.
A suspected handgun, a sum of cash and a quantity of cigarettes were all recovered by Gardaí.
The man in his 20s has since been charged and appeared before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court this morning.
A man in his 20s is due before the courts this morning following an armed robbery at a filling station in Co Donegal.
Gardaí were called to a filling station in Glencar at approximately 9.40am on Sunday morning after the man entered the premises armed with what appeared to be a gun.
He threatened staff, and demanded cash and cigarettes, before leaving the scene on foot.
Following on from this incident, Gardaí responding to reports of a theft of a vehicle intercepted a car in Donegal town and arrested the driver, a man aged in his 20s.
A suspected handgun was seized and has since been sent to the Ballistics Unit for examination, while gardaí also recovered a sum of cash and a quantity of cigarettes from the car.
