Activities: I have been in the band for six years, the last four playing bassoon in the wind ensemble. For marching band, I was lead keyboard for four years and have performed multiple solos within the marching season. For concert band, I also play the bassoon; and as a bassoonist, I have received multiple awards at the district and state level as well as having been awarded a scholarship to Pittsburg State University.
A senior at Villa Maria Academy, Carina Rose is a member of the National Honors Society, Math Honors Society and a National Merit Commended Student. She is Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper, Villa Voice, an executive of the Student Advisory Board and treasurer of Quill and Scroll. Rose is a member of the Student Integrity Committee and Mock Trial and is captain of Villa Mariaâs crew team. As a member of the Villa Maria Academy tennis squad, she received second team All-Main Line honors for singles last fall.

Dillard University receives $1 million from the Ray Charles Foundation
The Ray Charles Foundation is continuing its longstanding relationship with Dillard University with a $1 million grant. The grant will continue to support the University’s Ray Charles Program in African-American Material Culture which launched a food studies minor in the spring of 2020. Funds will also support scholarships for students participating in the program. Dillard University is a private four-year liberal arts historically black institution with a history dating back to 1869.
“The Dillard University Ray Charles Program in African-American Material Culture is humbled and honored to receive a generous grant from the Ray Charles Foundation to continue to build on Ray Charles’ vision and mission to celebrate, preserve and document African-American material culture. A portion of the grant will also help us to provide scholarships to students enrolled in our new food studies minor,”
