Police issued an alert on Dec. 31, naming a suspect in the death of his stepson, 6-year-old Jaylen Worthington, police said. The Kalamazoo Gazette has not named the man at this time because he has not been arraigned on criminal charges. “We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Jaylen Worthington, who passed away due to complications from trauma on Dec. 23,” KDPS Captain Craig Habel said in a Dec. 31 news release.

Latravion Heard McMillon faces charges of felony murder and first degree child abuse. KDPS Captain Craig Habel says Jaylen Worthington died December 23 due to complications from trauma. On December 14, Worthington was admitted to Bronson Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Detectives were called to the hospital and began conducting an investigation. The investigation found the child’s injuries were a result of child abuse.
