KALAMAZOO, MI A Galesburg man charged with first-degree arson in a Dec. 15 fire at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo died in jail two days after the incident, a Kalamazoo defense attorney confirmed.
Chase David Dalton Lovell, 29, was arraigned in Kalamazoo County District Court on Wednesday, Dec. 16 on a charge of first-degree arson. Lovell, whose bond was set at $100,000, was found dead the following day in the county jail, Donna Innes, with Kalamazoo Defender, told MLive.

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI Law enforcement officials deployed spike strips to successfully stop a fleeing vehicle early Sunday morning, Dec. 20 in Kalamazoo.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested for fleeing/eluding, possession of a firearm and outstanding warrants, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies were initially dispatched to the Red Roof Inn West in Oshtemo Township at 5425 W. Michigan Ave. at midnight to investigate an a report of felonious assault in which a firearm was said to have been pointed at an individual, police said.

OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. â A suspect has been arrested after threatening someone with a gun and leading deputies on a chase through Kalamazoo.
Around midnight on Sunday morning, deputies responded to a call that someone had been assaulted with a gun pointed at them. This happened at Red Roof Inn West in Oshtemo Township, near US-131 and Asylum Lake Preserve.
When authorities arrived, they tried to stop the suspect s vehicle, prompting them to speed off. Spike strips were laid out, causing the suspect to crash on Stadium Drive and Lovell Street.

OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Police say a suspect is dead and two other people are injured after a stabbing and shooting incident in Oshtemo Township this morning.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says just after 7:00 a.m. Friday, a call came in about a suicidal person armed with a knife at a home at Chippendale Drive and Morningstar Way.
When deputies arrived at the home, the Sheriff’s Department says the suspect “engaged deputies and shots were fired.”
State Police Lt. DuWayne Robinson said the man who was killed by a deputy had injured two people inside the home before the deputy arrived, according to WWMT-TV.
