The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is down several positions.
Although officials said the hiring shortage is not new to police agencies as they’ve seen a lack of applicants for the last several years, it’s recently gotten worse. Officials said they’re putting a bigger push on hiring because they project into the future, severe personnel shortages.
“Applicants are difficult to find right now,” said Kalamazoo County Sheriff Cpt. William Timmerman. “Many agencies are having the same problem throughout the state of Michigan and the country, that there just aren’t the same number of applicants applying to police jobs as there used to be.”
